I stopped and looked at this scene many, many times before I painted it, or even took a reference photo. I felt like there was a painting there, but I hadn’t quite gotten ahold of it. Its time finally came.
Something about steel polished by use. And it brings to mind that Gus Van Sant line, “His horse was fast as polished steel.”
