"Nearly Spring, Natul Landing" 10" x 13". Oil on panel. On a recent plein air trip to Netul Landing, I did a small painting and a second little pencil sketch directly onto panel. I thought I should paint the sketch while the energy of the place was still fresh in mind.
This scene is immediately adjacent to the painting I did on site—just about 15 degrees to the right.
I thought this scene looked exactly the way that day felt. We had had a big wind storm. And snow before that. It had been a little cold and rainy for months. Not that I mind. But this kind of Spring tease right after the blue gray chill of stormy season was so welcome. And beautiful.
Somehow, it seemed that with this clearer light, I could hear and smell more clearly too. You think there's anything to that?
Anyway. It's nearly Spring. And for all the worry in the world, every year nature shows us all this hope and resurrection.
