This is a scene overlooking the blackberry vines as you begin the eastern third of the Astoria Riverwalk towards Tongue Point. It's my favorite section of the Riverwalk--the most serene section. It goes from urban in the westernd two-thirds to wild in this section across multiple train trestles, through the best bird habitat. No wonder you see so many people toting binoculars on this section. 

But even in the the most beautiful landscapes, I'm drawn to the intersection of natural and manmade things--the light through the pier-posts--and its attendant shadows.

I paricularly enjoyed painting this piece.
