It’s an astonishing sight that even native Astorians still find a amazing: You drive down the hill into town. You look through a series of stoplights at Franklin, Exchange, Duane, Commercial, and Marine Dr. Cars pass, east and west. And there at the end—a 700-foot-long bulk carrier steams through the intersection on Astoria’s last “street”—the Columbia Rive. Nothing is my iconic of Oregon’s most storied town.
